On December 6, local time, China ’s third nuclear power unit exported to overseas, Pakistan Chashma Nuclear Power Unit 3, reached final acceptance conditions and passed Pakistan ’s national acceptance. After the acceptance, CNNC will continue to assist Pakistan ’s original committee in the operation and maintenance of Chashma ’s four nuclear power units. At this point, CNNC has handed over a nuclear power plant that reassures the Pakistani people.

The construction of Chashma nuclear power is an important measure for CNNC to actively implement the “Belt and Road” initiative and the “going out” strategy of nuclear power. During the acceptance period, Li Xiaoming, assistant to the general manager of China National Nuclear Corporation, chairman of China National Nuclear Corporation, and Saeed Ur Rehman, the nuclear power commissioner of Pakistan ’s original committee, delivered speeches on behalf of both parties.

Chashma is the starting point for China-Pakistan nuclear energy cooperation. In 1986, China and Pakistan signed the "Agreement on the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy Cooperation," which kicked off the prelude to bilateral nuclear energy cooperation. On December 31, 1991, Qinshan Nuclear Power Station, the first nuclear power plant in mainland China, achieved grid-connected power generation in just 15 days. China signed a contract with Pakistan to build the same reactor-type unit, and realized the "original" export of nuclear power units to foreign countries. The project has the largest export capital and the highest scientific and technological content, thus setting a precedent for China's nuclear power to "go global".

The 4 units of Chashma Nuclear Power were contracted by China National Nuclear Corporation Zhongyuan Company. For more than thirty years, CNNC and the Pakistani Original Committee have jointly written a magnificent chapter that witnessed the friendship between China and Pakistan: Unit 1 of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant, the first nuclear power plant under Sino-Pakistani cooperation, is hailed as a model of "South-South cooperation" It has been operating steadily for nearly 20 years; on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brazil in 2011, Chashma Nuclear Power Unit 2 was put into commercial operation; Chashma Nuclear Power Units 3 and 4 are the two governments ’deepening all-weather strategy Under the background of the partnership, the major project to consolidate the brotherhood of the two peoples is also a strong proof that the two countries have further explained the peaceful use of nuclear energy to the world; the Karachi nuclear power units 2 and 3 are also under construction in an orderly manner.

Unit 26 has been operating safely and steadily for three years under the joint efforts of China and Pakistan since the 26-day interim acceptance of the advanced contract plan on December 6, 2016. According to the latest data from Pakistan ’s original committee, the four units of Chashma Nuclear Power are currently in stable operation, with good safety indicators and good performance. The capacity of the machine assembly exceeds 1.3 million kilowatts. As of October 31, 2019, the total power generation of the four units 745.465 billion kilowatt-hours, providing clean, efficient and safe electricity for Pakistan, which is in short supply of energy.
